Top 3

Interactive priority-setting that considers open tasks, calendar, and weekly goals

Purpose

Help identify and set the top 3 priorities for today. Reviews context from tasks, calendar, and weekly goals to suggest high-impact items.

How to Use

Invoke with /top-3 in Claude Code, typically in the morning.

Instructions

  1. Gather context:

    • Read today’s daily note (100 Periodics/Daily/YYYY-MM-DD ddd.md)
    • Read this week’s weekly note for Weekly Top 3
    • Check open action items from recent daily notes
    • Review any meeting notes for today
  2. Consider these factors:

    • What’s on the calendar today?
    • What’s most urgent (deadlines)?
    • What’s most important (high impact)?
    • What’s been carried over multiple days?
    • What aligns with Weekly Top 3?
  3. Ask the user:

    • Present 3-5 candidate priorities based on context
    • Ask which resonate or if they have others in mind
    • Confirm final top 3
  4. Update daily note:

    • Fill in # Today's Top 3 section
    • Format as numbered list with clear outcomes:
      1. Ship the auth fix (unblock QA)
      2. Prep for 1:1 with Sarah (review her project status)
      3. Draft the team update email
  5. Good top 3 items are:

    • Specific and actionable
    • Outcome-focused (not just “work on X”)
    • Achievable today
    • Mix of urgent and important
